Can Intelligent Design do that?

Science magazine (30 June 2006) cited an article published online in the Proceedings of the Royal Society regarding dating antique prints based on an idea that arose from evolution research.

Blair Hedges, a professor at Pennsylvania State University in State College who is a longtime collector of prints, reasoned that just as genes steadily accumulate mutations over time, the woodblocks and copperplates used in early printmaking deteriorate at a relatively constant rate.

Hedges calibrated his technique using different editions having the same illustration but printed at different dates.
